Lilly the cat lived with her family for the last eight years. She “owned the block” according to her owner. She had lived in the same home for four and a half years, becoming familiar with the routines, neighborhood, and ways to get back home and inside. She was allowed to go outside and wears a purple collar. Her family had to move and her owner was worried how Lilly, so used to her neighborhood, would adjust. “I was really nervous bringing her to a new area and how she would react,” she said. During their second week in their new home, Lilly went out like usual. But something felt odd to her owner, who was worried that Lilly wasn’t going to make it home.

Missing Cat No More

“I get the notification on my Ring camera that someone had been spotted on my front doorstep,” said Lilly’s owner. The camera was connected to a screen in their kitchen that shows the live footage on the porch. “We all look at each other and ask, who’s at our door at this time of night?’ Lilly’s face appears.” Lilly had rung the doorbell and activated the camera. The footage also captured her sweet meows, waiting to be let back inside. Lilly pushed her face up to the camera as she meowed. It must have been a big shock to see their cat, who they were afraid wasn’t coming home, at the door. Not just that, but she actually rang the bell! “We all gasp! And we’re laughing. We’re emotional, we were crying.” Her owner was happy that Lilly had made her way back to her new home after her absence. “It was a great moment.” Lilly’s owner thought that maybe the cat had been running from something. She was anxious to get back inside, either to get away from another animal or pet or just to be safe home again. There wasn’t any food or water on the porch. And in a new, unfamiliar area, Lilly could easily get lost on her adventures. Both Lilly and her owner were lucky that the video doorbell was there and that Lilly was able to use it. What a genius cat. Not all pets would be able to make it home in an unfamiliar place and ring the doorbell to get back inside. What a polite cat. Way to go, Lilly!
