Lakomi was rescued after she was found wearing a small harness that was suited for an 8-week-old puppy, and not an adult wolf like her. Her skin had grown over the harness and must have been quite painful. The harness was removed shortly after she was rescued and treated with medication to help aid her through an infection that nearly killed her. Thankfully, rescuers were able to save Lakomi and take her back to a sanctuary where her current owner Sarah found her. When Sarah came to the sanctuary where Lakomi was being kept, her enclosure had 14 feet high fences in place because she would jump and hang by her jaw if they were any lower. Sarah was told that Lakomi was crazy and would be difficult to socialize with, as Sarah already owns wolfs back at home. After around 2 months since Sarah started socializing and training Lakomi, she became an entirely different wolf that now allowed physical contact. Lakomi quickly became a loving, playful, and sweet wolf that was a great example of the redemptive power of love as Sarah describes her. Lakomi went from a reserved wolf that came in injured and didn’t enjoy physical contact, to a wolf that now enjoys getting belly rubs. This is a beautiful example of how love can heal even if we have been hurt and mistreated in the past. In the video, you can see Lakomi lying on her back with a massive grin on her face as she gets a belly rub, looking no different than if she was an ordinary domesticated dog. Lakomi even seemed to be responding to the belly rubs by wiggling her leg, as her scratch reflex spot had been activated. At first glance, Lakomi may look like a happy dog, but she is indeed a wolf that has been rescued and now lives in a sanctuary where she receives endless love and of course, plenty of belly rubs!
